WHAT IS A CONCRETE BRIDGE COATING ANYWAY?
This is a great question! Why would you want to repair your spalling and cracked bridge vs. replace it? A concrete bridge coating might be just right for your project. Certain bridges need replaced, which you can tell if you see rust near rebar or crumbling to the point of seeing the mesh or rebar underneath. However, some bridges, have more aesthetic issues, like spalling and cracks that can be addressed with our sand broadcast deck system. Concrete design bridge coatings use our tried and true parking deck system with a sand broadcast.
How we do it:
- Repair the concrete and prep it (wash the concrete, and in some cases, grind the concrete; patch the spalling areas and seal the cracks)
- Wash the surface again and apply our industrial strength coating system in a few steps
- Broadcast our locally sourced quartz or quartz color of your choice
We, first, repair the concrete and prep it for the sandbroadcast, which can include washing the concrete, grinding in some cases, patching the spalling areas and sealing the cracks. Second, we wash the surface again and apply our industrial coating system in a few steps. We won’t get into the nitty gritty here, but feel free to ask us questions at our consultation. Mainly, we layer heavy duty, durable epoxies on the smooth, prepped concrete, and then we broadcast in our locally sourced quartz to make the finished product durable and prolong the life of the concrete for years to come. This saves you from having to replace it, which usually will cost you at least 2-4 times as much replacing the bridge vs. repairing it.
A BOULDER HOMEOWNER’S CHOICE TO REPAIR HIS BRIDGE
Recently we applied our sandbroadcast deck system to a Boulder homeowner’s beautiful bridge. The homeowner and his family were great to work with, as it took about a week to complete and it was one of their entrances to their industrial and modern home in a most lush, beautiful setting on the outskirts of Boulder. The homeowner in this case, chose our sandbroadcast system vs. replacing his bridge because his bridge was only spalling and starting to crack (see before picture below) and it was to the point where it could be saved with our system. If he were to have replaced it, it would have cost him more money. We charged him $10/square foot to apply our whole system, giving him 5 to 10 more years at least of good use. He was very pleased with the final result. It was a little sticky a few days after the sandbroadcast was complete because of the cool weather temperatures when we were in the process of applying the system, which is to be expected, especially in the month of October for concrete coatings, such as the sandbroadcast deck system we used for his bridge.
The bridge looks beautiful now and it is durable as can be! The concrete bridge coating was ideal for this family’s situation. The family can drive and walk over the bridge with confidence, knowing that even the Colorado weather will have a hard time ruining this fine finish.
